Christian Formation for Children & Youth

SUNDAY MORNINGS - The following classes will gather in the parish hall at 9:15 for fellowship. At 9:25, following an opening prayer, the teachers of each class will lead the children into the Christian Education hall for class. Classes end at 10:15. There are no children's classes on the 2nd Sunday of each month because of the contemporary worship service.

PRESCHOOL / KINDERGARTEN - The teachers use a Godly Play curriculum to tell the stories of Jesus' life and to introduce the beginnings of liturgical understanding. The children are shown a presentation using wooden figures and various materials and hear a passage from the Bible. They are then asked to respond to the presentation through activities, helping the children  to learn to tell the stories of our faith themselves.

GRADES 1 THROUGH 3 - The children hear stories from the Bible and talk about their thoughts. The children are helped to become comfortable with the Bible, the worship service and their faith.

GRADES 4 THROUGH 6 - Utilizing the Bible, the Book of Common Prayer and the Episcopalian Christian Education curriculum, students explore what it means to be a Christian and the resources that are available to begin to understand the Christian faith. During Sunday School and at activities throughout the year, students are encouraged to express themselves as they learn about a Christian way of life.

GRADES 7 THROUGH 12 - This group gathers to explore their faith and to continue their journey as an integral part of a larger community. We focus on building our own relationships as we reflect together on who we are and how we engage as Christians in this complex and sometimes confusing world. Our conversations are based on the use of the Bible and the Book of Common Prayer, as well as a variety of contemporary resources. Included are discussions of our Episcopalian heritage and traditions as we highlight the liturgical nature of our own church.
